In the Dutch newssite the journalist commented negative about the English, spoken by the Belgian candidate (reason for me to not link to that website). He's even wrong: she speaks well-understandable, AND she speaks far better English than native American / English speakers do speak Dutch :-) .
And in Youtube reactions several people commented about pronounciation and grammar of many candidates. With you I think it seems compulsory for candidates to speak English, and it gives a large inequality.

The same inequality happens in many cases, for example in the EU, at universities. the European Song contest, etcetera.
In many occasions English appears to be the 'leading' language. And many non-native speakers don't get all nuances of what is said, and cannot express themselves as fluently as English speakers do who have this language as their mother tongue. So native English speakers will be favoured most of the time.

That's why I would like to have everybody, all-over the world, to learn - besides their mother tongue - a 'universal' language like Esperanto, and then in international meetings speak Esperanto. Also because this language is a 'neutral' language (even a 'political neutral' language as I once read). And by that all persons at, for example, a meeting have the same opportunity to understand and the same opportunity to be heard as all persons present. The Thai girl is the very best!

I haven't seen all the interviews from the beginning to the end. But I've confirmed another, in my opinion, important question.
Almost of the candidates speak in English, except four of them who speak... in Spanish, of course! They are from Venezuela, Uruguay, Panama and Spain. I don't know which language speak "other people" in the whole universe. But on Earth, I'm afraid it's compulsory to speak English to represent "the Universe"!!!Evahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07748493395007102526noreply@blogger.com
